Established 23 years ago Look Good Feel Better is the only cancer support charity providing practical support for women struggling with the visible side effects from cancer treatment. Through skincare and makeup workshops they help give women the skills and advice they need to combat the loss of eyebrows, eyelashes and changes to the skin, which can significantly affect self-esteem at a time when a positive attitude is vital. Their free services have the support of over thirty leading companies and brands from the beauty, cosmetic and fragrance industry, as well as many other organisations who recognise the benefits of their service.
A cancer diagnosis can be daunting and life changing and the added stress of the appearance related side effects of treatment can be demoralising and very difficult to cope with. This can have serious consequences on self-esteem and confidence at a time when a positive attitude is very important. LGFB are dedicated to improving the self-esteem, confidence and well-being of people undergoing treatment for any sort of cancer. Their aim is to improve self-image and appearance through free group and self-help skincare and make-up workshops that create a sense of support, confidence, and well-being.
So then, who are Katie's Heart and how are we linked to LGFB and The Beauty Festival?
Katie's Heart is a business based in Cardiff that offers biodegradable glitter, rhinestones, hair braid ring kits and handmade, knitted, customisable accessories. Our glitter is ethically sourced, biodegradable, cosmetic grade glitter, our applicator is organic and vegan friendly, our wool is vegan friendly and we use locally sourced suppliers wherever possible. £1 of every sale we make goes to LGFB as they were a fantastic support to Katie, one of our team members when she was going through chemotherapy.
We are a three strong team all affected by some of life's unexpected curve balls. We aim to create something we love, something fun and we also love to give back. We are all about eco-friendliness, confidence, well-being, meeting new friends and supporting local!

Katie's experience with LGFB - She asked our social media followers to ask her any question they liked with regards to her own two cancer experiences. She replied to all of the questions in a blog and in reading this you gain first-hand experience as to the positive effect LGFB have on women facing cancer. To read this blog CLICK HERE
LGFB are hosting The Beauty Festival hoping that they can achieve a special goal. They currently provide support to over 300 ladies annually at the Velindre Cancer Centre and at the University Hospital of Wales where they run teenage workshops. Collectively, these services in Cardiff cost £16,500 per annum. From funds raised at the Beauty Festival, they want to be able to fund these services in Cardiff for the whole of 2018 and be able to continue to provide this vital service for many more women and teenagers. This event is important locally so please come along and join in, it will be a fabulous day!
Katie & Emma will be in the 'Beauty Live' area at The Beauty Festival. We will be glittering and applying face gems. All of our profits from this day will be donated to LGFB. We started this business in February 2017 and so far have donated £806 from our sales and community events and festivals. We are excited to have the opportunity to show off our skills at this event, make new friends and make as much money as possible for LGFB.
We mentioned we are all about:
- Confidence & Well-being
- Supporting local
Confidence & Well-being
As part of the plan to advertise this event for LGFB, Katie has been incredibly brave and taken part in a photo shoot about body confidence to inspire others. Our company mantra is 'No rain, no flowers' and the photo below sums this up perfectly. You can go through anything and come out the other side happier than ever. Katie, we are so proud of you and the infectious positivity you continue to spread!
Katie has decided not to have reconstructive surgery as she feels her body has been through enough and lets be honest she looks perfect as she is and suits her nickname 'the one tit wonder' to a tee! There has been so much to think about and accept during her recovery. She had to have a hysterectomy and the result is not being able to have children. Her attitude is that she is lucky to be alive and there are people in worse situations, oh an the latest is that she has signed up to complete a marathon in April 2018 for LGFB - good luck for that Katie, you are on your own for that one!
Come along and see us on the 21st if you are struggling with a cancer diagnosis, LGFB and Katie can give you all the advice you need. Let's support each other, be positive and lets face it glitter makes everyone smile!
We feel that it is important to think about what you put on your skin. Our glitter is cosmetic grade & biodegradable. It has been developed in response to the increasing environmental pressure on the use of plastics in the cosmetic industry. The film from which our glitter is derived, is biodegradable and made from trees, primarily eucalyptus trees, environmentally sourced from responsibly managed plantations. It does not contain genetically modified materials or materials obtained from genetically modified organisms.
Biodegradable, cosmetic grade glitter feels more comfortable on the skin and is physically 30-40% softer than polyester glitter. Our glitter applicator is a natural fat extracted from the nut of the Shea tree.
